FIELD / DESIGN / QUALITY

Stefan R. Chin

Founder & Technical Director

Solar design, field installation, quality engineering, and technical project support.

FOUNDER

Founded through field and technical experience.

Stefan’s background spans solar field installation, residential solar and battery design, quality engineering, design management, contractor support, commissioning, and technical documentation. His experience connects technical decisions with the field conditions that affect installation quality, electrical performance, constructability, and long-term serviceability.

Stefan previously worked in residential solar design leadership and utility-scale solar quality engineering, with responsibilities involving technical review, electrical design coordination, quality systems, claims investigation, field conditions, and design-to-construction problem solving.

His professional development includes solar and electrical training, OSHA safety education, and continued preparation toward advanced solar industry certification.

WHY THE COMPANY EXISTS

Better project outcomes begin before equipment is purchased.

Many solar and battery projects begin with equipment, price, or sales promises before the electricity requirements and project conditions are fully understood.

WATTS UP JM was created around a different sequence.

01 Begin with the property.
02 Understand the electricity use.
03 Define the backup priorities.
04 Review the site and operating conditions.
05 Establish the technical basis.
06 Select the system and equipment that fit the project.

The objective is not simply to purchase or install equipment. The objective is to make a reliable energy investment based on clearer technical decisions.

OPERATING PHILOSOPHY

Quality by Design.

Quality is established through how a project is defined, reviewed, documented, coordinated, and executed rather than inspected only after the work is complete.

01

Requirements First

Requirements First

Electricity use, light-bill information, backup priorities, property conditions, budget, schedule, and client objectives establish the project basis.

02

Independent Technical Judgment

Independent Technical Judgment

Systems, proposals, and equipment are evaluated against project requirements rather than a fixed product list or sales preference.

Coordinated Systems

Coordinated Systems

Solar generation, battery storage, power conversion, generators, protection, distribution, monitoring, and controls are considered as one electricity system.

04

Practical Execution

Practical Execution

Technical decisions are evaluated for constructability, documentation clarity, field coordination, operating reliability, inspection readiness, serviceability, and future expansion.

Technical decisions are evaluated for constructability, documentation clarity, field coordination, operating reliability, inspection readiness, serviceability, and future expansion.

Quality is designed into the process before it is expected from the result.

THE STARTING POINT

Built around real electricity requirements.

The starting point is not the product. It is how the property uses electricity and what the system must accomplish.

Project requirements may include:

Reducing electricity costs
Maintaining essential loads
Supporting air conditioning or pumps
Improving outage resilience
Coordinating generator backup
Preparing for future expansion
Supporting business continuity
Improving system performance

The recommended system follows those requirements. The requirements do not follow the equipment.

HOW THE BUSINESS WORKS

One company. Two connected forms of support.

WATTS UP JM establishes the technical basis first. Where a project requires equipment coordination, approved equipment can be incorporated into the project scope.

Technical Advisory and Project Support

Independent planning, proposal review, assessment, design support, quality control, troubleshooting, commissioning guidance, and technical documentation.

Project-Specific Equipment Coordination

Where required, WATTS UP JM may coordinate or supply equipment that has been reviewed and approved for the project basis.

This approach preserves manufacturer neutrality. Equipment selection follows technical requirements, compatibility, availability, support conditions, and the approved project scope.

Engineering first. Equipment second.

HOW WE OPERATE

A focused technical company.

WATTS UP JM is founder led. Stefan Chin directs the technical approach, project standards, client coordination, and quality expectations. Additional contractors, installers, designers, engineers, suppliers, and technical contributors may be coordinated where a project requires capabilities outside the approved WATTS UP JM scope. Roles and responsibilities are defined according to the project.

This structure allows the company to remain technically focused, flexible, and accountable while bringing in appropriately qualified support when required.
